**WEEE** (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, *DEEE* in French) is the regulated route for the **collection, treatment and recycling** of electrical and electronic equipment at end of life, symbolised by the crossed-out wheelie bin printed on products.

## In the project

The WEEE directive mainly sheds light on the **end of life** of a system: thinking about **demountability** and material separation from the design stage onwards makes recycling easier. It is one angle of [[ecoconception-en|eco-design]] (favouring connectors over solder for anything meant to be replaced, keeping the board modular) rather than a certification constraint for a one-off prototype.

*Producer obligations (compliance schemes, collection rates, extended producer responsibility) belong to the **standards course** and to the ESE discipline. This wiki keeps what they imply for demountable design.*
